BLOG: This Week at the Farm

It’s all about the Dahlias, Roses, Scabious and Cosmos this week.

We have had spells of really hot weather followed by lots and lots of rain. I’ve not had to do much watering this past week!

The Dahlias have been late arriving this year but are looking very healthy and strong with beautiful flowers arriving every day. The first flowers are usually very short and once they have been cut, the lovely long stems arrive making sturdy flowers which are brilliant for florists and customers alike.

I’ve introduced new roses into the field this year, once again from David Austen. They are Desdemona, Lichfield Angel and The Queen of Sweden. These will make superb cutting roses for Bridal Bouquets next year.

The Cosmos are currently flowering their socks off in whites, pale pinks and a deeper pink.

In the greenhouse, next years Sweet Williams, Foxgloves and Delphiniums are growing on into sturdy plants which will be planted out in the Autumn. They will go through Winter putting down strong roots and will usually come alive in the Spring ready to produce their spectacular blooms.

Thank you for taking the time to read, I’ll be back next week.

Meanwhile I love these! Do you?
